Singapore will begin offering subsidies for the treatment of illnesses linked to haze exposure starting on October 12, 2026. The initiative, announced by Health Minister Zaihan Mohamed Yusuf, aims to support citizens affected by the persistent haze conditions.

The subsidy program will cover medical expenses for conditions such as respiratory infections, asthma exacerbations, and other health issues linked to air pollution. Eligible individuals include Singaporeans and permanent residents who have been diagnosed with haze-related ailments. The government will provide financial assistance through public healthcare institutions and private clinics.

The move comes amid ongoing concerns about the health impacts of haze, which has been a recurring issue in the region. Previous studies have shown that prolonged exposure to haze can lead to increased hospital admissions and worsened respiratory health. The government has also introduced public awareness campaigns to encourage preventive measures such as using air purifiers and limiting outdoor activities during high haze days.
